Daniel Cheng
Daniel Cheng has cemented his legacy as one of Bay Area’s most successful piano instructors. Within the walls of his studio, the crescendo of success reverberates, with a multitude of students choosing the path of piano as their life's calling under his expert guidance.
Daniel Cheng serves on the board of many musical societies. Cheng has served as a member of the of the board of directors at the prestigious Steinway Society of the Bay Area. As the founder and board member of the Chinese Music Teachers Association of Northern California (CMTANC), he has greatly influenced musicians in the Bay Area.
His dedication and mentorship have earned him the prestigious Certificate of Excellence from the American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented.
Among his notable alumni are luminaries such as world-famous pianist Ying Feng and renowned piano performance instructor Zhou Xiaomei. Daniel's transformative influence has propelled his students to secure scholarships, claim international honors, gain admission to esteemed conservatories and universities, and grace the stages of renowned orchestras across the Bay Area. Some of his students have went on to attend some of the most renowned conservatories including Juilliard School of Music and have even been awarded scholarships by the Chopin Foundation.
Cheng's journey through the world of music education is marked by resilience and dedication, forged in the crucible of China's Cultural Revolution. Despite adversity and hardship, he emerged stronger, ready to share his passion and talent with the world. His triumphant return to music instruction and performance in the United States is a testament to his enduring commitment to the art form.
As a professor at both An-Hui Teacher's University Department of Arts and the Shanghai Music Conservatory, Daniel Cheng's influence extended across continents. In 1989, immigrating to the United States, he has helped shape the future of many young pianists in the Bay Area. His students consistently excel in major piano competitions, earning him praise as one of the few Chinese piano teachers with a track record of international success.
Today, as the Artistic Director of the USIMC Foundation and founder of the US New Star Competition, Daniel Cheng's legacy endures, inspiring the next generation of musical talent. Dr. DONG DONG DONG
Dr. Dongdong Dong is an established pianist/teacher in music community. She graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, China, and was a soloist and chamber musician of the Shanghai Philharmonic Society. In early 1980s, she earned her Master of Music degree, Doctor of Musical Arts degree and Performer’s Certificate in Piano from the Eastman School of Music, U.S. where she studied piano with Barry Snyder. Her teachers also include Jerome Lowenthal (Juilliard School) and Bradford Gowen (University of Maryland). Dr. Dong has extensive experiences of performing in the United States, Canada and China. In late 1980s, she was Assistant Professors in Hamline University at St. Paul, Minnesota and in Monroe Community College of SUNY at Rochester, New York. In 1989, she had the honor of performing in the presence of the Prime Minister of Canada and received official recognition for her superb performance.
Before moving to California in 2014, Dr. Dong had been conducting a successful piano studio in Toronto, Canada, for 25 years. Her students include many top prize winners in Canadian national and regional competitions. Dr. Dong is founding President of the Chinese Artists Society of Toronto. She has served as Vice President (2010) and Competition Consultant (2014) for the Toronto International Piano Competition. Since 2014, Dr. Dong has been serving on judge panel of the US International Music Competition, US Open Music Competition and US New Star Music Competition.
